Riobaldo and Ernesto: a comparative study between the narrators of Grande sertão: veredas and Los ríos profundos

This article aims to analyze the novels Grande sertão: veredas (1956), by João Guimarães Rosa, and Los ríos profundos (1958), by José María Arguedas comparatively. Bearing in mind the recurrent discourse of Brazilian literary criticism about the universalism of Rosean regionalism and Arguedas' indigenism, throughout this article, the configuration of the narrator-character in both works will be analyzed to point out the "non-place" they occupy. In other words, not belonging to both the rural and regional environment and the cosmopolitan and urban environment does not require a synthesis that universalizes them since the strength of these novels lies precisely in the negative aspect that they demarcate in relation to Eurocentric culture.
