This paper presents some critics for the statemens made recently by two of the most known members from the so called Rio Schoool: João Luís Fragoso and Manolo Florentino. Specifically, we are in doubt about: the international coffee and sugar prices’ feature, between 1790 and1840 inRio, showing the internal growth capability, the extension of their conclusions to all the colonial period, the critics to the traditional models of brazilian historiography and the meaning of trade relationships between the differents economies of the today called South and Southwest Brazilian Regions.
