From Revista da Faculdade de Educação to Educação e Pesquisa: an interview with former editor Belmira Bueno

Abstract

The testimony of Belmira Oliveira Bueno, given to Roni Cleber Dias de Menezes, is part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Educação e Pesquisa, the academic journal of the School of Education at the University of São Paulo. As editor-in-chief between 1998 and 2003, Belmira Bueno recounts the restructuring process that transformed the former Revista da Faculdade de Educação into Educação e Pesquisa, inaugurating a new stage of institutional and scientific consolidation. Her account revisits aspects of this transition, such as editorial modernization, the creation of a new board, the journal’s inclusion in the SciELO collection, the expansion of national and international authorship, and the strengthening of its academic visibility. The narrative also emphasizes the collective dimension of this endeavor, involving faculty members, staff, and funding agencies, while reflecting on scientific publishing as a formative experience and a public commitment to knowledge.
