This interview with professors Teresa Cristina Rego and Denise Trento, part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Education and Research, reflects on their experiences as editorsin-chief between 2008 and 2016. The dialogue highlights a period of significant changes in the journal’s editorial processes, shaped by the growing pressure of academic productivism and internationalization demands. To face these challenges, the interviewees emphasize the professionalization of the journal, including the expansion of the editorial team, integration into the SciELO platform, digitalization of the collection, and the adoption of more rigorous
review practices. Key innovations introduced during this period include the dual-editorship model, thematic dossiers as a strategy for enhancing quality, and an interview section to foster the exchange of ideas and dialogue with international scholars. These initiatives increased the journal’s national and international visibility, consolidating its role as a reference in the field. The interviewees’ recollections also highlight the human dimension of the editorial experience, marked by friendship, cooperation, and intellectual engagement. Ultimately, the trajectories of Teresa and Denise illustrate the importance of collective management and
academic commitment for the sustainability of a scientific journal.
