This article emerges from an investigation into the philosophical and epistemological foundations of Geography that led us to the four volumes of "Cosmos: A Sketch of the Physical Description of the Universe" by Alexander Von Humboldt. We delve into Humboldt's conception of the Universe and the Earth, exploring the impact of his ideas on the formation of Geography as a discipline. To do so, we utilize the Spanish version translated by Eduardo Perié, along with volumes one and five in English, translated from German by Elise Charlotte Otté. Throughout the article, we highlight the distinction between the terrestrial and uranographic studies proposed by Humboldt, as well as his vision in defining Geography as a science tasked with consolidating knowledge related to the organic and inorganic evolution of the Earth's surface. As a result of this analysis, we identify fundamental roots in the construction of geographical knowledge as a discipline, and discuss its possible influences on the production of contemporary geographical knowledge.
