O estudo das fontes estrangeiras na obra de Machado de Assis e o caso italiano

Abstract

Studies on the Italian sources in Machado de Assis´s work area still a lonely tree amidst the forest of studies on Machado de Assis. Three aspects perhaps explain the marginal situation of this research; firstly, fewer Italian references when comparad to English and French references, for instance, secondly, absence of lengthier studies; lastly; this source doesn´t address key issues in Machado´work. This paper intends to show how to deal with the sources in Machado´s work, based on three analysis models, and additionaly how these studies can indeed address fundamental issues in Machado´s work, as long as one does not neglect the writer´s qualified and muche-vaunted critical fortune.
