In hospital nursing, Orders and Occurrence Records are literacy practices that comprise the summary of the work shift and its complications, presented as a written document for each shift, aimed to provide information to the continuity of the work and ongoing patient care. Given their relevance to nursing, we aimed to map and discuss the main social representations generated by these professionals in these records through interviews. Theoretically, we are anchored in premises from Literacy Studies (Kleiman, 1995; Kleiman; Assis, 2016; Street, 2014; Rojo, 2009), especially in the postulates of professional literacies (Paz, 2008; Costa, 2019), including contributions from the Theory of Social Representations (Moscovici, 1984; 2003; Jodelet, 1994; 2001; Abric, 1994). The results indicate that the representations constructed refer to: (a) ethical principles inherent to hospital work practices; (b) the roles records take on during daily work; (c) the images that relate them to other writing practices circulating in various social and institutional spheres.
