Evaluative Intonation in Fable: Reading Activities and Linguistic Analysis

Abstract

From the perspective of Applied Linguistics, this article presents, reflects and discusses the element of evaluative intonation in a prospection of the methodological path of reading activities and linguistic analysis in a dialogic perspective, as integrated practices, for the 9th year of Elementary School. Its objective is to recognize the role of linguistic-textual-enunciative resources in the process of understanding of expressive and evaluative intonations in the fable The Good Ant, by Monteiro Lobato (2010), as a demonstration of effective production with the axiological element of dialogism. The suggested prospecting is supported by linguistic-textual-enunciative resources that constitute the verbal style of the aforementioned fable. The course of activities is supported by the notion of dialogism of the Bakhtin Circle, with emphasis on evaluative intonation, and is organized into: a) previous activities; b) reading of the utterance; c) social dimension of genre; d) verbal dimension I – epilinguistic activities of reading and linguistic analysis; e) verbal dimension II – metalinguistic activities of reading and linguistic analysis. The proposal explains the ways in which the linguistic-textual-enunciative resources mark and explore the evaluative intonation constituted using the diminutive in the fable, enabling the reader to produce meanings and understand the human value manifested in the discourse.
