Speech genres and/as life: coexistence and responsibility

The aim of this article is to discuss speech genres as an ethical and social responsibility in enabling (or restricting) access to knowledge about (parts of) the world, since these forms of enunciation cannot be conceived apart from the spheres (or fields) of human activity in which subjects coexist and mutually constitute one another. More specifically, the article seeks to highlight aspects of the relationship between language and life within the educational sphere. To this end, the discussion is grounded in the notions of speech genres, consciousness, utterance, and the responsible act — key concepts in Bakhtinian studies — drawing on the works of Mikhail Bakhtin, Pavel Medvedev, and Valentin Voloshinov. The article aims to emphasize the importance of discursive genres as a constitutive element in the production of meaning by subjects and of the world.
