Online Submission

The journal Pandaemonium Germanicum, published since 1997 by the German Division of the Department of Modern Languages at FFLCH/USP and by the Post-Graduate Programme "German Language and Literature", is understood as a forum for academic discussion in the fields of German Studies, i.e. German language literature, comparative literature and cultural studies related to German-speaking countries, German linguistics, applied and contrasting linguistics (Portuguese/German), teaching German as a foreign/additional language and translational studies. Pandaemonium intends to contribute to the dissemination of research projects produced by Brazilian Germanists and scholars from other countries, as well as for the dialogue between the German Studies, other areas of Languages and Literatures and other areas of knowledge.

Pandaemonium accepts the following types of texts on the areas mentioned above:

1. unpublished articles in Portuguese, German, Spanish or English (minimum 15, maximum 30 pages);
2. review articles;
3. critical reviews of dissertations, theses, translations and books of interest to the areas in question. The books must have been published in the last 3 years, in the case of foreign editions, and in the last 2 years, in the case of Brazilian editions;
4. in exceptional cases, interviews with authors or professors of recognized importance for the area.

The journal receives manuscripts on the subjects mentioned above in a steady stream and on specific themes according to its Calls for Papers.

The articles must be accompanied by an abstract in English and an abstract in the original language of the article. The abstract must have a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 200 words. Reviews should not be accompanied by an abstract.

The articles are screened by the editors and, if they correspond to the profile of the journal, they will undergo double blind peer review.  In case of divergent assessments, a third critical assessment is required; the editors reserve the right to make the final decision on publication.

The articles submitted to the evaluation for publication in Pandaemonium cannot be submitted simultaneously for publication in other journals or editorial bodies.

Since 2024, the journal Pandaemonium Germanicum journal has been publishing continuously. In 2025, following national and international guidelines for best practices in open science and the recommendations of the Open Science Framework (OSF), the journal began using preprints through SciELO Preprints. Authors wishing to submit manuscripts in this way should follow this template and send their work via the SciELO Preprints server. They will then be subjected to initial moderation before being sent for internal double-blind evaluation by Pandaemonium Germanicum.

Please note that, regardless of whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected by the journal, it will always remain in the SciELO Preprints system, even if it is submitted to other journals in the future.

The opinions and ideas expressed in the published articles are of responsibility of their respective authors.

In a proven case of plagiarism, the article will be removed from the journal.

There are no fees for submission and evaluation of articles.

All journal content, except where identified, is licensed under a Creative Commons License (CC BY-NC).

The final version of the approved article will be published with the name of the editor or editors responsible for the manuscript evaluation process.

The texts published by Pandaemonium follow ABNT Standards and must be sent according to the following specific indications:

1. Title and margins – Title centered, capitalized only for initial letters. Font: Geometr231 BT 26. It is mandatory to translate the title into English in size 14 in brackets.

Required Margins: right and left - 3,0cm; top and bottom - 2,5cm.

2.In corresponding online form or on a separate archive – Full name(s) of the author(s), institution and department, full address of the institution, city, country, e-mail address for contact, number ORCID. Ex.:

2.1. In corresponding online form: enter information on eventual financings related to the paper.

3. Abstract and Resumo/Resumen and/or Zusammenfassung – one must necessarily include an abstract in English, and a resumo/resumen in Portuguese or Spanish, in case of an article in Portuguese or Spanish; or a Zusammenfassung in German, in case of an article in German. In the case of a Portuguese/Spanish article, a Zusammenfassung is also optional. In the case of an article in German, a resumo/resumen is also optional. Place the word Abstract/Resumo/Resumen/Zusammenfassung in Times New Roman 11, bold, capitalized to initial letter, followed by a colon. The summary text should be presented in Times New Roman 11, simple space, without indentation. The abstract must have a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 200 words, and must not be accompanied by citations and bibliographic references..

Note: Reviews should not be accompanied by an abstract.

4. Keywords/Palavras-chave/Palabras clave/Stichwörter – should be added after each abstract. Give a blank space. Font: Times New Roman 11, simple space. The words Keywords/Palavras-chave/Palabras clave/Stichwörter should be bold, followed by colon. Finally, write a list of 3 to 5 keywords in English, 3 to 5 palavras-chave/palabras clave in Portuguese/Spanish and 3 to 5 Stichwörter in German, separated by semicolon.

Note: Reviews should not be accompanied by keywords.

5. Text – in Times New Roman 12, 1,5 spacing between lines and paragraphs. (Spacing between paragraphs throughout the text: 3 pt above and below) Articles must contain a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30 pages. Articles with less than 15 pages will not be submitted to the peer reviewers. (For reviews: minimum 3 and maximum 7 pages)

5.1. Paragraphs: use tabulator (1,25 cm).

5.2. Subtitles: Geometr231 BT 19,5, no indentation, only with the first letter in capital letter. Use Arabic numerals for numbering. Second-level subtitles: put in size 13.5.

5.3. Tables and illustrations (photographs, drawings, graphs etc.) must come within the general pattern of the text and in the space intended for them by the author. It is recommended to use images at 72 px resolution. Avoid using large images.

5.4. Notes should be prevented. When necessary, they must appear at the foot of the page, numbered according to the order of appearance. Font: Times New Roman 10, simple space and justified text.

5.5. Emphasis or highlights in the body of the text - it must be used italics. For foreign language words, use italics. Do not use bold or underline.

5.6. Quotes of up to three lines come between quotations marks (without italic), followed by the last name of the author (in Small Caps - not all-caps), year of publication and page(s). Ex.: (LIEBLICH 2005: 61-63). With more than 3 lines, indentation of 1,25 cm in the left margin, font Times New Roman 11, without quotation marks, without italics, simple space, also followed by the indication of the source.

• Quote with more than three lines

6. Attachments – should be avoided. If any, they must be placed before the bibliographic references, preceded by the word Attachments, capitalised only in the initial letter and without bold, without indentation and without numbering. It is recommended to use attachments only when absolutely necessary. 

7. Bibliographic references – ABNT Standards, should be only those referring to the texts cited in the paper. The words Bibliographic references only with capital letter B, without bold, in Geometr231 BT 19,5, without indentation. Simple space in the bibliographic references, with use of the automatic displacement. Font: Times New Roman 11. For the last names of the authors, use Small Caps (See examples).

The bibliographic references should not be numbered.

Important: In cases where the author(s) cite(s) his/their own works, identifications should be replaced by XXX in the references and in the body of the text.
