Abstract

This study investigates how young climate activists in Brazil and the Netherlands construct repertoires of action, forms of organization, and occupation of urban spaces, articulating affection, politics, and belonging around climate justice. Recognizing this field as contested and shaped by diverse ideologies, the research connects with the right to the city through youth experiences. The issue addressed concerns the limited characterization of these activists’ profiles (race, gender, age, origin), as well as their motivations and political engagement strategies. The hypothesis is that they are involved in established collectives operating in urban climate action. The methodology includes literature review, Q Method with Brazilian youth, and participant observation in the Netherlands. Results show that in Brazil, climate justice is experienced through everyday life and intersects with race, territory, and gender, whereas in the Netherlands, protest performances are more common. In both contexts, youth challenge hegemonic modes of mobility and participation, asserting their central role in the struggle for recognition, visibility, and the right to the city.
