Bringing Eugénio Tavares and Camões together would, by itself, lead to an extensive dialogue, given the importance of these two icons for their respective nations. However, in this essay we aim to briefly discuss the echoes of Camonian lyricism in Eugénio Tavares' poetic production, analyzing the amorous topic. In order to do so, we will focus on the continuities and ruptures produced by the Cape Verdean poet in his poems and songs, observing, mainly, the positioning of the poetic subject in front of his beloved object. As theoretical support for our analyses, we will use the resources of literary comparatism, in its cultural community aspect of the macrosystem of Portuguese-language literatures, as well as the essayistic exercises of Jorge de Sena and Cleonice Berardinelli, in addition to the works of the Cape Verdeanists Simone Caputo Gomes and Genivaldo Sobrinho
