The Moscow Art Theatre was founded in 1898 by Konstantin Aleksiêiev (whose stage names was Stanislavski) (1863- 1938) and Vladimir Niemiróvitch-Dântchenko (1858-1943). All its documentation, produced over 121 years of activity, is a rich source of information for researchers who wish to broaden numerous investigative possibilities that a theatre company offers, from the techniques of interpretation and management documentation to the personal correspondence between the members of the company. In this article, I want to address what the Moscow Art Theatre offered to my research on scene costumes in Stanislavski’s performances, under the different documental perspectives presented by Johanna W. Smit and Viviane Tessitore on archives, libraries and museums.
