Erased stories of theater in Brazil: the case of mágica in the city of Rio de Janeiro

This article presents the results of a research that examined theatrical mágica in Rio de Janeiro, between 1850 and 1920, pointing a research path for the discussion about the absence of studies of hybrid genres in the historiography of the performing arts in Brazil. In this exploratory study, the evidentiary method was applied, from the theoretical framework of cultural history. The qualitative approach permits the analysis of visual narratives in bordering genres, in the scope of the allegories, illustrating aspects of the mágica.
