The Discursive Construction of Journalistic Texts Approaching the Brazilian “Panelaço” and the Argentine “Cacerolazo”

This paper presents a discursive analysis regarding the journalistic approach of sociopolitical manifestations known as “panelaço” in Brazil during Dilma Rousseff's government in 2015 and “cacerolazo” in Argentina during Cristina Kirchner's government in 2013. This analysis of journalistic reports is part of our doctoral research entitled “The Discursive Perspective in Teacher Education: Analysis of Written Productions of Portuguese / Spanish Language Graduates on Argentine Cacerolazo and Brazilian Panelaço”, which is currently in development. Adopting the French Discourse Analysis (Pecheux, Foucault) as a theoretical-methodological framework we understand that there is no neutral and / or transparent discourse and, therefore, all discourse is a political act. Regarding journalistic analysis, we present two reports: one from an Argentine journal (Clarín) and one from a Brazilian one (Folha de São Paulo), observing how journalistic selection and argumentation strategies lead to determined effects of meaning. For this, we adopt several concepts commonly studied in Discourse Analysis, such as: conditions of production, discursive formations, intradiscourse, interdiscourse and discursive memory. Therefore, we argue that the way each newspaper recreates the manifestations reveals its socio-historical inscriptions, as well as its ideological positions, emerging thus diverse and contradictory discursive formations (Foucault, 2014 [1969]; Serrani, 1997) that lead readers to determined effects of meaning.
