We present translations of three short narratives whose genre can be defined as satirical story, chronicle, or feuilleton – The Russian Writer’s Tragedy (1920), by Arkady Averchenko, Que faire? (1920) and Little Town (1927) by Teffi. Written during the first wave of emigration, resulting from the collapse of the Russian Empire, the 1917 Revolutions and the Civil War, they reveal and fictionalize the first impressions of Russophone émigrés in foreign lands.
