The problem of older persons in Brazil, and in many other western societies, is becoming increasingly important, as the aging of populations expands, and with it, the challenges towards their social inclusion. This article addresses one of the facets of this issue, seeking to unify, from the theoretical point of view, two concepts: Age-friendly city, launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2005, and Paulo Freire's concepts of Permanent Education and Educational Cities. The conclusion is that the concepts are not distant, but that AgeFriendly Cities need to manage to become poles of permanent education for all ages and especially for older persons.
