Based on the novel Memórias de um sargento de milícias, by Manuel Antônio de Almeida, we aim to analyze how the malandragem (a brazilian trickestery) can be faced as a mediation practice of the disjunction that constitutes Brazilian society. This study take basis on a reflection about the Brazilian literature proposed by the researcher and lecturer Luis Bueno. In doing so, we revisit the trajectory of the critical and theoretical propositions about the “malandro” and the “dialética da malandragem”, according to Candido (1993), Schwarz (1987), André Bueno (2008), and Edu Otsuka (2007), in order to reflect about the disjunction as the combination of a way of acting and seeing that conducts the narrative.
