About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Alterjor is a scientific journal issued semiannualy by the Research Group Alterjor (ECA/USP), wich deals with popular and alternative Journalism. The popular Journalism is defined by the journalistic practices that occurs among the organised social and popular movements, includind the Third Sector, whose objetives tackles the fostering of institutional organisations and the spread of the leadership of non-hegemonic social segments. The Alternative Journalism is dealed by the experiences of Journalism through the several media and also tackle the fostering of public debate, described as Popoular Journalism. Furthermore, the Alterjor Journal invites the reader to think the achievement of the communication media democratisation for every segments of the society.
Peer Review Process
Every submitted texts will be evaluated according to the pertinence of the theme, clarity, objectivity, line of research, degree of scientificity and compliance with the accepted publication rules standards: ABNT (for Brazilian Researchers) or APA (for foreign researchers). This process also includes the temporary author removal, because the Peer-Blind-Review evaluation takes account in the quality of the submited papers.

This Journal offers immediate access to its contents, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public provides greater worldwide democratization of knowledge.
Qualitative Evaluation
Alterjor Journal actually is regularmente registered and evaluated in triennial terms by Qualis Journals, from Brazil Government Secretary of Education. the latest grade (triennial of 2017-2020) is B1.
Policy of Digital Preservation and Archival
Alterjor Journal uses the digital archival e preservation from do Public Knowledge Project (PKP PN PLN) by providing free archival preservation of Open Journal System's Journal. By the moment the interoperability protocols of digital preservation LOCKSS and CLOCKSS are used in digital library trough Editor Manifest by an active register on Ibict Cariniana Network (https://cariniana.ibict.br). Another resource of Digital Preservation send automatically the files from article published to Oasisbr (Published Scientific Data in Open Access Brazilian Portal).
Publishing Formats
By default, the Alterjor Journal releases its issues in PDF (Portable Document Format) format, with both visualisation from internet browser and option to download the file, compatible with free shoftware on computaders and mobile devices. This format is also recommended to be used to be used in citations due to the existence of page number. From 2026, the issues of Alterjor will be also published with EPUB format, compatible with electronic readers (e-paper / e-reader).
Protocolos de Interoperabilidade
Alterjor Journal offers automatic access to indexing database resources based on XML by using the Open Archives Initiative - Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (PMH) with HTML (XSLT - OAI 2.0) in Dublin Core format which is generated automatically by Open Journal System Drivers Plugin. This protocol ie already in use by digital indexers and its status can be checked in: https://revistas.usp.br/alterjor/oai
