Abstract

This article presents the historical development of the Brazilian business journalism since the decade of the 1950s to the first decade of 2000 relating the characteristics of each period with the current political situation. In the 80s, during the hyperinflation period, business journalism as service arose, who taught the population to protect against corrosion of their money as showing how to calculate the increase in rent and other payments. The numerous packages announced by various governments forced journalists to decipher terms and technical measures, analyze them, interpret the consequences in the lives of citizens, the financial health of the company and the national economy, what made them better understand the micro and macroeconomics. After the “Plano Real”, the inflation became controlled, economy is stabilized and business journalism is replaced by a profile to present to the public the various possibilities of investment and short applications, medium and long term. Note is an emptying of a macro-economic thinking and an appreciation of the companies micro-economy and the financial market in the business press in general.
