This arcticle aims to propose some reflections, in theoretical and empirical spheres, about the symbolic struggles among the the different fractions of the political left in the locus of the brazilian alternative press during the military dictatorship (1964-1985). From a theoretical point of view, the research is based on the historical discussion about the alternative press and its relationship with the lefts of the period. In the methodological aspect, it is sought, from the categorical division of Kucinski (2018), between existential and political newspapers, understand how this division in the subfield of the alternative press manifested itself in the testimonies of journalists resistant to brazilian dictatorship. Empirically, it is understood that the tension in question, influenced by broader political-cultural movements, was responsible for conditioning professional, organizational and political aspects of alternative journals.
