Abstract

The female presence in a prominent position in journalistic radio programs is a recent phenomenon that seems to have broken the historical hegemony of male voices. This study mapped the women who occupied or occupy the positions of presenters or debaters in the prime range of radio journalism stations with national reach. The results point to a gradual increase that was consolidated in 2020, when all programs in the prime range now have women presenters. The female advancement, however, does not represent, for the time being, gender equity in the conduction of the programs. Vocal gender stereotypes make it challenging for women to reach the same standard of acceptance as men in radio journal.
