Sounds from the countryside of São Paulo: report on the free radio stations from Votorantim Superstar FM and Express FM from the perspective of Charles Rafael

Free radios are radio stations that operate without government concession. This characteristic means that such media can be managed by people who have never had contact with the language and technology of radio before. This trend became popular in the city of Sorocaba/SP. During the 1980s, regional and national journals reported on the activities of free radio stations in the interior of São Paulo. This action became known as the movement of free radio stations in Sorocaba. However, radio stations from other cities in the region also joined this movement. In this interview, Charles Rafael reveals what it was like to participate in the free radios Express FM and Superstar FM in the city of Votorantim/SP during the 1990s.
