Prejudice and abyssal mindset: What are the cartographic references when the media talks about data and technology

In this article, we aim to relate abyssal thinking, by Boaventura de Souza Santos (2010) to the theory that prejudice is based on everyday life, by Agnes Heller (1970), in the discursive formation of the article published in the newspaper El País “Is Tik Tok, the Chinese app targeted by the US, a danger to the West?”, aired in August 2020. We also discuss the notions of information technology and data ownership in the context of the commercial and symbolic dispute for hegemony world, between the United States and China, in which the former presents a strategy of disseminating an anti-China sentiment, to shield itself from the threat of loss of power, apparently supported by the media and by the way it reports information, also reflecting on the role of the media as an opinion maker, based on Douglas Kellner (2001).
