The study investigated the evolution of Organizational Communication (CO) in a historical perspective, in order to identify the publications that help to retrace the origins of this field. For this, exploratory research was carried out, supported by bibliographical and documental research that led us to identify seven publications, which made up the study clipping, and that had as focus: the state of the art, panorama of the area or that proposed a CO chronology. For this purpose, the analytical corpus is composed of publications by Tompkins (1967), Richetto (1977), Putnam (1982), Putnam and Cheney (1983), Putnam and Cheney (1985), Redding (1985) and by Tompkins and Redding (1988), here appreciated as historical documents that help to reconstitute the history and memory of the field of Organizational Communication.
