The climate tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul is yet another warning about climate disruption due to global warming. We can no longer ignore the facts of environmental impacts and their climate consequences, as so-called “climate denier” politicians want to see. The country has not yet recovered from the calamity of the floods in the South and new attacks on Brazilian coastal areas are already being launched, such as PEC 03/2024, or PEC das Praias, as it is being called. The subject has mobilized the media, as the subject took over the news and social networks, involving artists, environmentalists, politicians and a well-known football player, poster boy for PEC and partner of DUE Incorporadora, which has a project called “Brazilian Caribbean ” for the construction of a high-end condominium comprising 100 kilometers of coastline between the southern coast of Pernambuco and the north of Alagoas. The interview with professor and researcher Ilza Maria Tourinho Girardi is fundamental to understanding this moment.
