This article critiques the category of symbolic power from a feminist and decolonial perspective, seeking a concept that encompasses the complexity of power issues in journalism. By recovering original ontologies that function in a circular and holistic way, it aims to discard the dualism between symbolic and material dimensions, through a conceptual dialogue that problematizes the foundations of Eurocentric approaches to science. It considers that a non-binary understanding of reality, within which the intersectionality of feminist theories is embedded, makes it possible to address power in its multiplicity of manifestations in journalistic practice, without detaching symbolic expressions from production processes and other forces that create tension in the field.
