In this paper we will focus the analysis in the Arena Theatre's Playwriting Seminar and the interrelationship that was established with the Laboratory of Interpretation, both founded by Augusto Boal in 1958 and 1956, respectively. Based on this available seminar material, we conclude that the major innovation that occurred was the relation between playwrighting practice and theory which are dialectically related to the interpretation. This theory was grounded on the in-depth study of the method developed by Stanislavsky, but not restricted to it. Based on this theory, there have been created new exercises and performing techniques resulting in a highly theatrical language of Brazil.
