Body, school and theater teaching in public schools of Uberlândia (Minas Gerais)

The ongoing PhD research presented here performs ethnographic work on theater teaching practices in some of the public schools of Uberlândia-MG. The axis of the ethnographic observation are the body behaviors and representations involved in the teaching and learning of theater in this context. The research seeks to illuminate the theme of teaching theater in public schools through the observation of the body and ethnographic approach, rarely used in the field of Theatre Pedagogy in Brazil. One of my hypotheses is that there seems to be a tension between the lived experience of the body in theater practices and corporeality that is built contemporaneously in Brazilian Institutions of Basic Education. In this scholarly communication I intend to introduce some aspects of the research in development (including the research in the field), presenting the thoughts accomplished so far. Thoughts which have as its center the statement of Fayga Ostrower - to give shape is also to be shaped/formed - and in which I put into dialogue elements of Pedagogy Theatre, Art Theory and Cultural Anthropology.
