“Bursting the spotlights”: the matripotency in the Breaking

Women in Breaking occupy a place of constant struggle to sublimate the erasure, invisibility and silencing of their history in this culture. In light of this, the article aims to reflect on black and Afro-Brazilian women in the socio-historical and cultural construction of Brazilian Breaking, as a reflexive-critical and Afro-referenced exercise, to guide to the south the paths taken by these women through the intersections between social, political and cultural issues related to race, gender and sexuality, based on an autobiographical account and analysis of an interview conducted with the Bsbgirls crew, in 2012, by UnBTV. Through the work it is possible to see that even with changes in the scene there are still multiple issues to be problematized and reflected upon.
