This article situates the San Francisco Oracle newspaper, edited by Allen Cohen during the "summer of love" in San Francisco, within the context of the counterculture and compares its aesthetic and formal elements with the impasses caused by new communication technologies. The San Francisco Oracle is treated as a model for strategies of resistance against the aesthetic and content impoverishment resulting from templates and the hampering of journalistic activity by market constraints
