Abstract

Abstract: This paper presents a translation and a study of the first chapter of Achilles Tatius’s novel, Leucippe and Clitophon. The study aims to discuss some choices made in the translation. The opening chapter of Leucippe and Clitophon can be read and interpreted separately from the main narrative, as it serves as a preamble to the plot. In it, an anonymous narrator composes two ekphraseis. To discuss the proposed translation, the study explores the textual construction of the chapter, shedding light on the elements, themes, and techniques used, highlighting the elaboration of the landscapes contained in the ekphraseis. The article is divided into three sections. The first introduces the work, its author, and its historical context. The second presents the Greek text and the translation. The final section is dedicated to the study of the excerpt.
