This text introduces the Egyptian writer Bahaa Taher in his historical, political and literary context, and proposes a translation from Arabic to Brazilian Portuguese of the short story “What’s your name?”, placing it within the collection of texts from which it was taken and exposing translation decisions for the use of Egyptian Arabic dialect and narrative tone.
