Translation of chapters 1 and 16 of Aristotle’s On Sophistical Refutations, accompanied by a brief introduction and explanatory notes. This is an excerpt from a work in progress, submitted for technical review in March 2025, as part of the larger project of translating the Complete Works of Aristotle, coordinated by Professor António Pedro Mesquita, from the University of Lisbon. The treatise is the last volume of the Organon and is dedicated, first, to exposing and classifying the arguments present in eristic conversation, and then to addressing solutions for a respondent who wants to escape the malice of the sophistic interrogator, or even who wants to learn how to avoid making reasoning errors when researching alone.
