This paper presents a translation of Horace, Odes 2.19, with an introduction and commentary. The poem is not only central to the characterization of Bacchus but also relevant to the poetic program of the Odes, as it highlights transformations in both subject matter and the poet’s persona. The translation, in free verse, aims to reproduce the meaning and content of the original text in Latin. The commentary includes notes on poetic, historical, and cultural aspects, as well as philological and interpretative issues.
