The French Enlightenment thought has some elements of Renaissance scepticism, which is a plain acknowledgement of the critical strength of the sceptic tradition. But, on the other hand, in the same thought there is a refusal to an earnest consideration of pirronic scepticism. This is to be chiefly ascribed to the differences between the respective conceptions about nature, and to their divergences concerning the role of reason.
