Tradução do ensaio O povo japonês e as “coisas japonesas”, de Tosaka Jun

Abstract

This translation of the essay The Japanese People and “Japanese Things” (1937) seeks both to introduce Portuguese-speaking audiences to the thought of the Japanese Marxist philosopher Tosaka Jun (1900-1945) and to take part in a movement to recover and recognize the originality and consistency of his philosophy and his critical analyses of capitalist society and its relationship with fascism. It is believed that the essay in question, crossing the fields of philosophy, literature, history and everyday life, presents a synthesis of Tosaka’s concerns, while at the same time reaffirming the centrality of themes such as the referentiality of the self for modern Japanese literature, treated here in a shrewd and materialistic way.
