The article aims to discuss the dialogue in Freire as the basis of the communication process and, in interaction with other authors, relate it to the interrelations between Communication and Education, especially in Popular and Community Communication in the context of social movements and participatory research. The study is based on bibliographical research. It is possible to conclude that the relationship between Communication and Education facilitates the constitution of dialogue, both in formal education environments and in the context of popular Brazilian social movements which have, since the late 1970s, practiced dialogue through the collective construction of their forms of organization and mobilization as well as in the formulation of strategies and tactics in the context of the struggles of denouncing oppression and claiming rights. Dialogue is a transcendental issue and inseparable from educational practices. Dialogue can be understood as action-reflection that values the participation of subjects – as subjects – in the construction of knowledge.
