Degrees of concession: the dynamics of the unexpected

Abstract

With the unfolding of the tensive approach, semiotics opens up to the vectorization of dichotomies and to a clear charge in the operational treatment of processes. Starting from the very core of the mechanisms advocated by this theoretical approach, the article presents a way of accessing the dynamism of the opposition between implication and concession, proposing degrees of concession, the amplitude of which is established from the most tenuous concession possible, which has as a correlation a strong implication that is the exact maintenance of the expectation created, up to the other extreme, the apex of the break of expectation in the "event". Bringing this dynamism allows us to better understand the perceptual demands of a text and even create tensive drawings, measuring the impact of each break in view of the expectations created and their proposed development.
