O espaço tensivo da controvérsia: uma abordagem discursivo-argumentativa

Abstract

Based on the principle that argumentation develops when there is no consensus about a controversial issue, this paper will focus on some central aspects of Argumentation Theory/New Rhetoric: its relationship to  demonstration; the opinion and the credibility factor; the dialogic and argumentative construction of meaning; conflict resolution and negotiation of agreements and, last, the attribution of value  in the making of identities. The theoretical framework adopted is that of “semio-discursive” studies, since argumentation theory alone does not cover the entire discursive phenomenon, which is part of a wider global semantics. The purpose of this essay is to show the current contribution of the New Rhetoric to the area it acts upon: the field of controversy and of conflict, aiming at possible solutions.
