The aim of this paper is to present the experience that culminated in a mapping of the Centros de Estudos de Línguas (CEL - Language Study Center) of the State of São Paulo, in order to collect current data on this context, especially with regard to the situation of the Italian language and to the teaching problems. Therefore, we start from general data on the CEL and the project “Italianando a San Paolo”, performed in one of host schools of the city of São Paulo, and then address the procedures for data collecting and mapping. The data analysis shows, on the one hand, that the reality of the teaching of the Italian Language in the public context seems to have come to a pretty bleak plateau; on the other, points to the importance of conducting a survey like this, which made it possible to open a dialogue between the main institutions related to the teaching of Italian in Brazil and whose developments culminated in proposals for actions already prepared together and implemented, that can contribute both in improving teaching and learning conditions in CEL and to the Italian studies, because we are dealing with unpublished data in this research field.Downloads
