Abstract

This work aims to analyze three narratives from the Alien franchise: the book Alien, originally published in 1979, by Alan Dean Foster; the film Alien – The Eighth Passenger (1979) and the videogame Alien: Isolation (2007). The analysis will be based on the concepts of intermediality and transmediality, in order to study the influences of one form of narrative on others. The central proposal uses as theoretical framework the texts of Irina Rajewsky (2005) and Claus Clüver (2011), about the concepts of intermediality. For the study of the Alien franchise, the text by Karin Littau (2011) is used, who proposes the Alien franchise as a multi-media and adaptive product, both as a narrative and as a cultural asset. Finally, the text by Jonathan Mack (2016) is used on the dialogue between cinema and videogames, and on how one medium has borrowed concepts from the other to adapt to new materialities. Based on these proposals, the work seeks to highlight characteristics that demonstrate the evolution of the franchise as a plurimedia product, by comparatively studying the texts, listing moments in which it is possible to perceive both a reference of one media in relation to the other, as a technical evolution that allows new ways to present the core elements of the Alien franchise to new audiences.
