Authors in prison, prisoners as authors: preliminary notes to analyze on Memórias de um sobrevivente

Abstract

This article discusses Luiz Alberto Mendes's Memórias de um sobrevivente as a literary work, by analyzing some of its aspects, like the blurred form between novel and autobiography, and by confronting it with the literary tradition of prison writings, of the problematics of exclusion and the so-called "marginal literature", as well as with the Brazilian contemporary production which has prisoners as authors.
