This work aims to describe and analyse some aspects of kinship terminology and its implications on marriage systems among the Piranhã. I will show how the affinity is produced and what its value in the kinship system is. Firstly, the kinship terminology will be described trying to highlight the place of affinity in this system. Secondly, the implications of the terminological category for spouse and the most frequent type of marriage among the Piranhã will be presented. In this part will be analyzed, also, the constitution of the "family" or the "couple" and the sui generis phenomenon of the "bride price" and its implications for a model of affinity amongst Piranhã.Downloads
