In the middle of the last century, the Brazilian religious scene began to be characterized by a very remarkable Christian plurality and a competitive market among churches, something that came to be consolidated in the last decade through the Neopentecostal explosion. Since then and until the 2010 census, the Catholic decline has come along with an accelerated evangelical expansion. Also, there has been a large increase of irreligious people. In the current decade, we can see more clearly other factors leading to the Pentecostal growth, as well as two new and significant data: a considerable restraint of the growth of irreligious people and a remarkable growth of Spiritism. Besides that, we notice a heightened intolerance against Afro-Brazilian worshipers and some significant opposing manifestations, with an ecumenical character.
