Towns in the Forest: the"great objects" as expressions of the informational technical-scientific environment in the Amazonian space

This paper analyzes the"towns in the forest", created to support the great projects or"great economical objects" implanted in the Amazon in the second half of the 20th century; such towns were also called"company towns" or"enterprise towns". The discussion is inspired in theoretical reflections elaborated by the Brazilian Geographer Milton Santos when thinking of a theorization of space and, similarly, when proposing a reflection able to comprehend the Brazilian territory from the period, named by himself as informational technical-scientific, and its respective spatial correspondent, the informational technical-scientific environment.Downloads
